This will be a good matchup because Vanderbilt has one of the best teams I have seen in years. The stats back me up too. Their 8-4 regular season, including 5-3 in the tough SEC is their best in 30 years! The 6 game winning streak they are on is the best since the mid 50s and with a win they could tie their school record of 7 straight wins, which they set back in 19-4! Too much momentum here and I like them to beat a very good North Carolina State team that will give them a fight.
North Carolina State have a very good passing offence that ranks 20th in the country. That would be a massive edge, except this Vanderbilt defence is 10th in the country when protecting the pass. They are allowing just 326 yards per game and giving up a mere 18 points per game, ranking them 17th and 15th in those areas. That is almost 7 points less than NC State are giving up.
On offence, while not lighting it up, Vandy are scoring just over 29 points per game, but still a point more on average than NC State manage. Also, NC State are 7-5 for the season, going just 4-4 in ACC play.
Now here's the main reason I see NC State stuttering. The change in coach. They have just hired the N. Illinois coach but will have their offensive and QB coach take over for this one. On the other side Vanderbilt have a brilliant and respected coach and there is no uncertainty or change there so they will of course be more settled. They must be, as they've reeled off 6 straight wins. Make it 7.
BETTING VERDICT
I don't like the spread on 7, and I'm going to go with a teaser here. Go with a 7 point teaser of 2 favourites on Monday, Vanderbilt and USC, effectively taking both to win their games.
