Preview

The ACC Championship Game will be played between the Florida State Seminoles (10-2) and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (6-6) and while the former is no surprise, the latter is. Florida State won the Atlantic Division thanks to a head to head win over Clemson, while Georgia Tech won the Coastal Division because North Carolina and Miami are Bowl ineligible.

Both teams won't be in great spirits coming into this Championship Game as both were beaten last weekend in their last regular season game. Florida State were beaten by the Florida Gators thanks to 5 turnovers, while Georgia Tech were hammered by the Georgia Bulldogs by 32 points.

The Seminoles are missing Chris Thompson for the season, but they should still be able to get the running game going in this one as the Yellow Jackets have allowed 143 yards per game on the ground. With Florida State running the ball, it should open up passing lanes for EJ Manual and the rest of the Offense.

Manual has been very effective from the Quarter Back position all season and he should have short yardage situations to work with. He should be able to take advantage of the pass Defense of the Yellow Jackets which has allowed almost 250 yards per game through the air.

The only issue for Florida State will be establishing a running game so that they can negate the Georgia Tech pass rush which would otherwise have their way with the Offensive Line.

The other issue for the Seminoles will be returning to the stout run Defense that has been the foundation for their success for much of this season. Last week, the Gators gashed Florida State for 244 yards on the ground, but the Seminoles have only allowed 85 yards per game before that.

Georgia Tech will not surprise anyone by using their triple threat running game and that could be the key to this game if the Seminoles can slow them down somewhat. The Yellow Jackets have struggled to pass the ball on a consistent basis this season, but their running options will always cause problems for their opponents. If Florida State can slow them down, the Seminoles should win the game.

Georgia Tech have won the last 2 games in the series against Florida State, but they had lost 7 in a row before that.

Prediction

I think Florida State will do enough to slow down the Georgia Tech running game and that should be enough to see them eventually pull away from the Yellow Jackets.

The Seminoles are the better team by some way in this contest and I think they will be upset with the manner of their defeat to Florida and the way the Defense was gashed on the ground. I expect them to rectify that this week and win the ACC Championship.
