Minnesota improved to 3-1 with their upset of the Detroit Lions, and despite there being a chance of a letdown here as home favourite, I still like them to beat and cover the 5.5 point spread against the Tennessee Titans, who are just 1-3.

While Tennessee did get a good game out of Chris Johnson, who went for 141 yards against Houston in a losing effort, they have lost their QB Jake Locker, and what they will miss is the option he gives them of running the ball. They get Matt Masselbeck to throw the ball for this one, but he threw 2 interceptions that were returned for TDs so I'm not too crazy about him at all.

For the Vikings, Adrian Peterson also ran for over 100 yards last week, and he now has 332 yards and 2 TDs. Also, he is moving the ball at 4.2 yards per carry, a whole yard better than Johnson. The passing game is in good hands, with Chris Ponder yet to throw an interception, registering 4 TDs and completing over 68% of his passes. Ponder has now attempted 123 passes without an interception, and I think the streak will continue here.

Special teams and defence are going to make life difficult for the Titans. The Vikings returned the opening kickoff for a TD and did the same with the first punt in the 2nd half, and the defence throttle Detroit and limited them to just 13 points. Surrendering just 313 yards per game, the defence ranks 8th, while the scoring defence is 7th, giving up just 20 points per game. That means that even if the Titans get within range, they are likely to be held to FGs.

BETTING VERDICT

The spread is set at 5.5 and I like the Vikes by 7, so let's get our money on Minnesota.
