PREVIEW
Oklahoma ran roughshed over Texas last week, destroying the Longhorns by 38 points. This week, they are favoured by just 35 points over Kansas, who have the worst defence in the country. I smells a mauling.
The Sooners are 5-0 and ranked 3rd, and have done it in style so far, beating some very good opponents, such as South Florida and Missouri. They have scored 117 points in their last 2 games alone. Oklahoma have QB Landry Jones to thank, as he has posted crazy number through the season so far. Last week Jones threw for 367 yards and 3 TDs without getting intercepted. His favourite receiver, Ryan Broyles had 9 catches for 122 yards and a TD. That's not all, this balanced offence also gashed Texas on the ground, with Dom Whaley running for 83 yards and a TD on just 13 carries. What was scarier still, was the way Oklahoma kept scoring even when all these men were on the sidelines.
Oklahoma scored 3 defensive TDs against Texas. Which means the Oklahoma defence scored 3 times as many TDs as they conceded!! The Sooners forced fumbles and ran them back over half the pitch for scores a number of times, and with Kansas looking absolutely awful so far, you would think there are going to be a few defensive scores here too.
Consider last weeks game with Kansas, who were playing Oklahoma State, another offensive powerhouse. Kansas scored a TD to start with, but got hit with 5 TDs to trail by a boat load, and all this before the 1st quarter was over. What this tells me is they can't protect the ball, can't keep possession and can't slow down opponents. They also clearly can't stop anyone decent. In the 2nd quarter last week, they gave up another 3 TDs and in the end allowed 10 TDs and 600 total yards of offence. Thats ugly.
Kansas have managed to score, and have been able to move the ball both on the ground and while passing, but they are in a different league here. Oklahoma are capable of putting together long TD drives that take about a minute or two and they will do this with ease. Kansas might put up 10-17 points if the Oklahoma defence don't do their best. Except I think they will take this opportunity to really pad out their numbers and look good. The offence will score on practically every drive against this lot.
BETTING VERDICT
Big number, but I can see a cover here for Oklahoma. Take the Sooners to win big.
