PREVIEW
I'm really not getting this line at all. It opened at Detroit +1 and has moved to +2.5 now as the public continue to come in for Dallas.
I say wait a bit because I'm sure you can get Detroit at +3 just before the game. Or, you can take a shorter price and go for them now. Because Detroit look very much like the kind of team that could well stomp on Dallas this weekend.
Detroit is 3-0 for the first time since 1980 now, and they are actually on a 7 game winning streak, longest in the NFL at the moment! Last week, Detroit were down by 20 at HT against the Vikings but roared back to win, thanks to the work of Calvin Johnson and QB Matthew Stafford. Putting yourself in a 20 point hole isn't great, but coming out of that shows a hell of a lot of mental toughness, which will be key against Dallas, who are looking anything but solid.
Dallas come into this off a win, but they must be drained as it was a toughie against Washington on Monday Night, and they're playing an early game here, so there are th usual short week worries. Then there are the injuries to worry about, most of all to QB Tony Romo, who has fractured ribs and a punctured lung. He might have gotten it done against the Redskins but I'm not betting on a guy in that shape on a short week against a perfect team riding the longest winning streak in the NFL!
For Detroit, Stafford is averaging over 310 passing yards per game and has chucked 15 TD passes while getting picked just 3 times. And those stats are for his last 5 games. His form is consistent and with Johnson there to catch balls to take all the way home, he has a dangerous quick punch offence that can erase any deficit with quick drives.
Back to Dallas, there are injuries beyond Romo. Dez Bryant may or may not play as he is dealing with a leg injury, which Miles Austin is definitely out. Dallas may be 2-1 but it could so easily be 0-3. You see, Dallas have had their last 9 games decided by 3 points or less!
Both these teams have been poor running the football. Detroit rank 26th, while Dallas are 27th in rushing but they have both managed to throw the ball well and get a lot of passing yards. The difference is Detroit are capable of really bothering opposing passers, the fact they give up just 188 yards through the air, ranking them 4th in passing defence, means Dallas will be the ones who have to work harder for their yards.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm going to go for the riskier bet here and suggest the outright win for Detroit. Detroit look the better team and there are just far too many reasons to go against the Dallas Cowboys.
