Talk about emotional. Both these cities were victims of the atrocities of 9/11 and they face each other in the nations capital on the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

Donovan McNabb is gone and will wear purple, playing for Minnesota. Coach Shanahan has been watching Rex Grossman and John Beck through the summer and will go with the former today as his starting QB. Grossman actually replaced McNabb last season and threw 7 TDs and 4 interceptions as Washington tied Dallas at the bottom of the NFC East.

RB Clinton Portis was another member of the team to leave but the team do have Tim Hightower, who signed from the Cardinals, and rookie Roy Helu. Ryan Torain broke his hand during the summer so will not see action today, most likely. The main worry is the offensive line, which did not protect their QBs enough last season. NcNabb got sacked 37 times and Grossman was laid out a further 9.

New York just look stronger to me here. Last season they beat Washington 17-14 to win their 6th straight match against the Redskins. In fact, the Giants have lost just once in their last 10 matchups, back in 2007.

The Giants, coached by Coughlin, still have Eli Manning throwing the football for them, although his recent comments where he said he belonged in the same category as Tom Brady should be ignored. Manning has lost some of the players he could use to move his offence, such as Steve Smith and Kevin Boss.

I expect to see the Giants run the ball today against Washington. Running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs should do be able to do well against the Redskins D while there are Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks, a couple of young wideouts to help Manning move the ball.

BETTING VERDICT

This game will come down to the Giants rushing attack breaking down the Washington defence. I'm going to go with New York to get the opening win.
