Some Bears and some Buffaloes will do battle on Saturday afternoon in a match that does not affect league records. Last years meeting ended 52-7 and I can see California winning here again.
John Embree took over from Dan Hawkins at Colorado and last week saw his team lose to Hawaii 34-17. On the other side, Jeff Tedford saw his California side comfortably beat Fresno State 36-21. Tedford is now just 1 win away from tying the school record of 74 wins and the boys will be eager to give it to him, especially when they are playing a weak team.
The California Bears are playing a new QB, Zach Maynard. His debut wasn't spectacular but the team still stomped all over Fresno State. Maynard only completed 16 of his 35 pass attempts but made them count, throwing for 266 yards and 2 touchdowns! He had 1 pick but his chemistry with Keenan Allen and Marvin Jones looks ominous for Colorado. Both receivers caught well over 110 yards each and Jones was the beneficiary of both TD passes. Maynard also chipped in with over 50 yards rushing, which means he will be able to add another dimension to a rush attack that managed over 150 yards against the Bulldogs.
Colorado QB Tyler Hansen did not look comfortable at all, as he was sacked 7 times last week . The lack of protection meant he fumbled twice and got intercepted once and I can see the Bears defence able to get their paws (sorry) on him quite often here. Last week, Cali sacked Derek Carr 6 times and intercepted him once. One of those sacks resulted in a fumble that was returned for a touchdown.
Colorado are not just shaky on offense and protecting their signal-caller, but had trouble stopping Hawaii for long periods. The Buffaloes allowed Hawaii QB Bryant Moniz to rush for 121 of Hawaii's total 165 and they will have trouble with Calis brutal ground attack.

Colorado get mauled and Tedford gets his 74th win. Take California to win this.
