PREVIEW
Another early game for me, as the Aztecs of San Diego take on the Army Black Knights in West Point, New York. These two teams have never met each other.
Last year Army had a +16 turnover margin and it did them a lot of good. That might be that for them, if last week was anything to go by. The Cadets lost their opening game to Northern Illinois 26-49 after turning the ball over 3 times. Army found it near impossible defending the rushing attack and allowed Northern Illinois over 300 yards on the ground at a massive 7 yards per carry!
San Diego State won their opener last week, beating Cal Poly 49-21 with a brutal rushing game where they racked up 290 yards at about 6 yards per carry! The Aztecs also have a good QB in Ryan Lindley, who should be able to throw a few beauts against a very suspect Army defence. If Northern Illinois QB, Chandler Harnish, could manage almost 10 yards per pass against them, Lindley should be in for a good day.
Lindley threw for just 203 yards but had 4 touchdowns, as San Diego State managed 2 touchdowns in every quarter except the 3rd. In Ronnie Hillman they have a brute, who pounded out 190 yards all by himself on 28 carries, including 2 touchdowns.
The Aztecs, who closed out last season with a great win over UNLV and then topped Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl 35-14, look solid defending the run, which is Armys best form of offence.
BETTING VERDICT
The Black Knights allowed Northern Illinois to pass for 220 yards and then rush for another 290 yards. Lindley and Hillman will walk over them. I like San Diego State to not just win, but cover the spread too.
