The Iowa Hawkeyes dismantled Tennessee Tech 34-7 last week to give coach Kirk Ferentz his his 10th straight winning start to the season. Iowa picked up right where they left off last year, with yet another winning season and successful bowl game. They now play rivals Iowa State, a team they have faced every year since 1977 and one that has managed some results against them a few years back, but I feel Iowa will have too much for them.

Iowa State, in stark contrast, struggled in their opener as they laboured to a 20-19 win ove Northern Iowa. QB Steel Jantz didn't have a good debut, going 18 for 40 on passes for just 187 yards. He got picked 3 times and found the endzone just once. Jantz did get some yardage on the ground, including 2 touchdowns, but Iowas defence is much much superior to the one they faced last week.

Iowa have won their last 3 meetings against Iowa State, and 6 of their last 8. The last 3 matches have seen Iowa outscore their rivals 87-15, that's a average of 24 points! The Hawkeyes have had to replace QB Ricky Stanzi, and looking at James Vandenberg last week, it seems they have the right guy. Vandenberg threw for 220 yards and 2 touchdowns to McNutt Jr, who had 6 reception for 140 yards! Then there is Marcus Coker, who had almost 630 rushing yards last year, along with Mika'il McCall, who had 9 carries last week for 91 yards.

BETTING VERDICT

Perhaps the fact Iowa didn't return all their defensive starters from last year is playing on the oddsmakers mind. For me, this has to be an Iowa win. It's a nicely priced banker in my opinion, but I'll take them to win by at least a touchdown.
