PREVIEW
15th ranked Ohio State coasted a bit last week as they came through 42-0 against the Akron Zips. They now play another MAC opponent, the Toledo Rockets. I think we're going to see even more points scored!
Toledo dismantled New Hampshire 58-22 and will come here to compete. They are facing a ranked opponent for only the 15th time in their history but have only won once away against a ranked opponent.
Straight off the bat let me tell you this, Ohio State are a banker bet this weekend. The Buckeyes are 17-0 against MAC opponents and have a fantastic 53-5 run in their backyard. Toledo have faced Ohio State twice before and the results were 49-0 and 38-0. That last one was played only 2 years ago.
Still, the Toledo offence managed nearly 600 yards of offence last week, including almost 290 on the ground. RB Adonis Thomas bulldozed his way to 115 yards and 1 TD on just 9 carries!
The Rockets also use a 2 quarterback system that worked well last week. Austin Dantin and Terrance Owens were in good form, with Dantin throwing for 161 yards and 3 TDs, while Owens hit 2 TDs over 122 yards. WR Bernard Reedy had 5 catches for 113 yards and 2 TDs.
Toledo also have ER Eric Page, who is one of the best kick returners in the country. What I love is the no huddle play which means fast action, giving us more time for scores to be made. Last week, Toledo managed 83 offensive snaps in the game!
Ohio State had suspensions to deal with last week but now have WR Corey Brown and RB Jordan Hall coming back to bolster up a brilliant receiving corps that had 5 different players catch passes over 20 yards.
The Buckeyes are likely going to give both their starting QB Joe Bauserman and backup Braxton Miller time on the ball, just like last week. What this means is the game will not slow down when Bauserman comes off as Miller will keep the tempo going.
Last week Bauserman went 12 for 16 with passes for 163 yards and 3 TDs, connecting beautifully with Jake Stoneburner, who broke a few school records and will be hungry for more of the same. RB Carlos Hyde had almost 95 yards rushing and will share time with Jordan Hall.
This one is going to be non-stop and really fast. Definitely one to have a punt on and watch!
