2010-07-03 - Argentina vs Germany
A Sports Betting Pick by Cruiser
Analysis:After defeating England 4-1 in Bloemfontein last weekend, Germany has now become one of the genuine contenders and could even upset Argentina, after Brazil went out of the tournament to Netherlands.
Argentina will not want to follow the footsteps of Brazil and leave the tournament just yet, especially after they managed four straight wins to enter the last eight. Diego Maradona's side then beat Mexico 3-1 to set up the clash with Germany.
Interestingly it must be noted here that both sides benefited from controversial decisions in the last 16. For Argentina, Carlos Tevez was lucky to see his opening goal stand against Mexico when he was clearly offside and England's Frank Lampard denied a legitimate equaliser in the clash with Germany after his shot that crossed the line was not given as a goal by the officials which could have changed the match then.
Both sides will want to get the win here and will face the winners of the Spain vs Paraguay clash.
As for the team news, Joachim Low is hoping that of Lukas Podolski can recover in time as he is struggling with a thigh injury. Cacau is still suffering from a strained abdominal muscle and will not be risked. Mesut Ozil is set to feature in this clash.
Meanwhile Lionel Messi did not train on Thursday but that was due to a minor cold and he is expected to start as he aims for the first goal of the tournament. Walter Samuel has recovered from a thigh problem but will not dislodge Nicolas Burdisso or Martin Demichelis at centre-back.
Meanwhile, Juan Sebastian Veron will have to battle for a place in midfield with Maxi Rodriguez.
As for my selection, take Germany and give the 1/4 ball here.
Cheers and good luck,
