Hibs will face St Mirren on Saturday full of confidence after a terrific week which saw them gain maximum points after thrashing Hamilton 5-1 last Saturday and then going to Celtic Park and winning 2-1 thanks to an injury time winner from Danny Galbraith. Hibs had been forced to defend for much of the second half but were always dangerous on the break and also had some terrific goalkeeping from Graeme Smith when it was 1-1.
Hibs now lie in third only 2 points behind Celtic and 12 behind Rangers with a game in hand. Since September Hibs have only lost twice and they were against other top 4 teams in Rangers and Dundee United. Their home record has been excellent, losing only to the 2 old firm sides this season. Hibs owe much of their success to the excellent form of Strikers Anthony Stokes and Derek Riordan who have notched up 22 SPL goals between them.
For St Mirren its been a bad couple of weeks, losing 3 games in a row without scoring a single goal. This comes after they had won 3 in a row before that. Gus Mcpheron's side has received some plaudits this season for they way they have played but its poins on the board they need and their away record has been poor with just 2 wins and 8 defeats.
St Mirren are likely to finish in bottom six when the league splits and sit only 6 poins clear of bottom side Falkirk and have played a game more. On Wednesday they lost 2-0 at home to Rangers but didnt disgrace themselves and had their chances to equalise when it was 1-0. But failure to convert chances has been a problem and they could be up against it at Easter Road.
