The NFL is just around the corner in two weeks, but for now, baseball dominates the sports betting landscape.
With the trade deadline less than two weeks away, a lot of teams are showcasing their parts to trade off and acquire assets. Two of those sellers will meet up on Tuesday night.
Cleveland Indians (36-57 Overall, 16-29 Road)
On Tuesday night, the Rogers Centre will again be packed with Major League scouts as they look on to see Cleveland's team ace, who will be up for sale.
The Cleveland Indians will send top pitcher Cliff Lee (5-9 3.31 ERA) to the mound against the Jays as they get set to start their mid-week series.
The Indians will send Lee to the mound on Tuesday night and their ace is coming off one of his best performances of the season.
Baseball wagering handicappers were a little worried when they saw Lee give up seven earned runs and 11 hits in just three innings of work in his last start in June but he’s been back to normal in July.
Lee has allowed just seven earned runs in his last 22 innings pitched (three starts) and has been much stronger of late. He had a complete game one-run outing in his last start on July 16, which quieted the critics.
The Indians are clearly a team in transition and holding on to the 2008 American League Cy Young award winner doesn’t do them much good anymore. They need to move him and acquire some building blocks.
Toronto Blue Jays (46-47 Overall, 27-19 Home)
The Jays showcased their ace on Sunday, as Roy Halladay pitched a complete game against the Boston Red Sox in front of a number of Major League scouts.
On the flip side, the Jays will now put one of their building blocks on the mound as 23-year-old Brett Cecil (3-1 5.40 ERA) will look to progress again after his most recent start.
Cecil pitched six scoreless innings on July 10th, which was an encouraging sign after he gave up seven earned runs in just 3.2 innings of work on July 5th.
The Betting Verdict
Overall, the pitching advantage goes to the Indians as Cecil has been inconsistent this year. Look for Lee to put on another strong performance in what might be his last as an Indian.
