Football: England, Premier League
Saturday 9th May 2009 - Kickoff 15:00
Everton (6th - Home Rec : 7-5-5 28:19)
Everton's home record is not much to write home about, but you have to remember the Toffee's appauling start to the season here at Goodison Park when they started with three straight losses.
Since then things have improved markedly, and Everton now sit firmly in 6th place and in a battle with Aston Villa for 5th.
Everton had won four games on the trot at Goodison Park, running through an easy fixture list, before they slipped up against Manchester City last time out, losing 1-2.
Still it would pay to remember that Everton have won six of their last eight games at home and surely they have to be considered the most likely winners here.
Tottenham (10th - Away Rec : 4-3-10 23:32)
Tottenham have had another eventful season - looking the business in pre-season but then absolutely failing to get anything right during the opening months of the campaign.
Juande Ramos was sacked, in came 'appy Harry Redknapp (and the return of strikers Robbie Keane and Jermaine Defoe) and Tottenham started to look at lot better.
Spurs are now one of four teams battling for 7th place and a spot in next season's Europa League, which should provide plenty of incentive, although the way Tottenham dropped out of this years UEFA Cup by selecting a very understrength side does make you wonder whether the effort is really worth it?
Tottenham's best results have come at White Hart Lane, with a string of 1-0 wins recently, while away from home it's still a mixed bag.
Head to Head
Tottenham have a great recent record at Goodison Park, winning three times in a row over the past four seasons, before a 0-0 draw here last season.
Strangely enough, Everton have also enjoyed travelling to White Hart Lane over the last three seasons, winning each of the last three reverse fixtures including a 1-0 success in November of this season.
The Betting Verdict
Everton have been in very good form over the last couple of months, and while the 1-2 loss to City was a bad effort, things seemed to come right with a 2-0 win at Sunderland.
Tottenham do like to play at Goodison Park, they haven't lost here in their last four trips, but that away defence looks a bit leaky still with 10 goals conceded in the last six games - and at least one goal in every game.
I favour Everton to edge this game and had expected a price around 1.80 to 1.90 and so will definately be on the bigger price.
