Analysis:Reggina currently bottom of Serie A looks to be having their last season in Serie A after seven years in the top flight. It will be almost mission impossible for them to get out of relegation now from where they are situated at the moment.
Their last win came in November and have suffered defeats in eight of their last seventeen games to date. Even though at the start of the year they have managed draws with the likes of Roma, Milan, Fiorentina and Napoli, but their inability to win matches means that they have been rock bottom since Week 20. Apart from the 3-0 defeat to Inter Milan their defending isn't that bad as they have conceded just 10 goals in their last 11 matches.
However their biggest problem remains finding the back of the net and in those 11 games they have scored just 5 goals. On the other hand, Udinese also needs to find some consistency themselves. Pasquale Marino will definitely have one eye on their midweek UEFA Cup match.
Interestingly, Udinese have not won on the road since a 2-0 win at Catania back in October and this match against the basement boys is the best chance to get the win. With just one win in their last six matches, this seems the perfect time to gain their confidence back by getting three points.
Their previous meeting this season saw Reggina shocked Udinese when they won 1-0 thanks to a goal on the hour mark from Franco Brienza. But last season Udinese won 3-1 thanks to two goals from Antonio Di Natale. However, in 2006-07 it was a point apiece as Nicola Amoruso’s late penalty cancelled out Sulley Muntari’s opening goal.
In seven years Reggina's participation in Serie A, they have done reasoanbly well against Udinese. Reggina have managed five wins over their Udinese, while they have experienced five defeats and three draws along that run.
With regards to the team news, Reggina have several injury concerns here. Goalkeeper Andrea Campagnolo, Icelandic midfielder Emil Hallfredsson and striker Bernardo Corradi are all on the injured list. And to make it worse, Chilean midfielder Carlos Carmona is out on suspension.
Udinese themselves have injuries of their own. Striker Di Natale is still out so they are missing a good striker upfront. Others out of the side includes defenders Andrea Coda and Damiano Ferronetti as well as midfielder Fernando Tissone.
However, I will go for Udinese to get the win here on level ball handicap.
