The final day of action in the German league sees Stuttgart, exellent at home, dire away, take on Arminia Bielefeld who are just one place above the relegation zone. Stuttgart are in a 4 way tie with the 4th, 5th & 6th placed teams, and a good win here could ensure their place in Europe next season. As a result of the position of both teams, it is clear that motivation will not be an issue for either side.
Stuttgart have been very predictable of late, they have won well at home vs all sides, and been wretchedly bad away from home. Their home form shows a string on convincing wins vs the like of Hamburg, Frankfurt and Werder Bremen, and they have now won 6 in a row at home, 5 by more than 1 goal and 4 of those by more than 2 goals.
The season long home form for Stuttgart also makes for good reading, with a 12-1-3 home record since the start of the season (their away record is dreadful, including 11 losses)
Bielefeld have managed to get several draws in their last 6 away games (0-4-2) but this included games vs other lower placed teams including Cottbus (0-1), Nurnburg (2-2) and Hansa Rostock (1-1).
Bielefeld’s season long away record doesn’t make such good reading, with a 1-5-10 record highlighting the fact that they have only gained 8 points away all season. Stuttgart are an entirely different prospect at home to many of Bielefeld’s recent draws, and have really been in excellent home form.
Stuttgart’s Home Form (most recent first)
W 4-1 vs Frankfurt
W 3-0 vs Nurnburg
W 1-0 vs Hamburg
W 4-1 vs Hansa Rostock
W 6-3 vs Werder Bremen
W 3-1 vs Karlsruhe
Arminia Bielefeld’s Away Form (most recent first)
L 0-2 vs Bayern Munich
D 2-2 vs Nurnburg
L 0-1 vs Energie Cottbus
D 1-1 vs Hamburg
D 2-2 vs Hannover
D 1-1 vs Hansa Rostock
That home record of Stuttgart’s really is impressive, they hit Werder Bremen for 6, and beat Hamburg aswell. Bielefeld could do with the win to ensure their survival but with European football available for Stuttgart, and that home record, you cannot really fancy them to score a surprise away win.
The Verdict;
Stuttgart hold nearly all the cards here in my opinion, wins by large margins against teams of all levels at home, and motivation to gain the win.
Bielefeld may or may not need a win, based on other results, and if Schalke do well at Nurnburg, Bielefeld’s motivation may relax a lot (as Nurnburg need a win to relegate Bielefeld).
