Analysis:After Barcelona’s failure to beat city rivals Espanyol in the Catalan derby, Real Madrid can go one step closer to clinching the La Liga title as they can increase their lead to 11 points at the top and seal the Championship making it unreacheable for anyone to catch them.
But their opponents today Racing Santander are also fighting for a place in next season’s Champions League and will not make it easy for Real Madrid here that is for sure. However, they were dealt a cruel blow when defender Ezequiel Garay has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The 21 year old Argentine has been key to Racing success this season and his presence will surely be felt as they face Real Madrid strikers that has scored a total of 66 goals in the league so far.
No doubt that Racing who boasts one of the best defensive records in La Liga, surely can attribute it to Garay. Racing conceded just 31 goals this season, which is the same as Barcelona currently in second place. Real Madrid still has the best defence to date conceding only 30 goals this season. Garay’s outstanding display has even attracted top Premiership clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Tottenham in chasing his signature.
With Garay out of this match, Real Madrid can take maximum points here and extend their lead to 11 points at the top. Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last three matches but their away form is much to be desired as they have won just once in their last four away games. That was a 3-2 win over Recreativo Huelva. Other games they drew with Real Mallorca 1-1 and suffered defeats to Real Betis 2-1 and Deportivo 1-0.
Racing on the other hand, after three straight home wins, were finally beaten when they were beaten by Deportivo 1-3 at home. Prior to that they chalked up wins against Almeria 1-0, Real Betis 3-0 and Recreativo 2-0. In their last match however they came back strongly to beat Valencia 2-1 away from home.
Interestingly Racing have not drawn a single matches in their last eight games! Real Madrid on the other hand drew just once and that was against R4eal Mallorca when it ended 1-1 away from home.
Go for Real Madrid to get the win here, especially since they are no longer in the Champions League and can increase their lead to a massive 11 points but most importantly the absence of Garay could prove vital here.
Take Real Madrid on level ball not to lose here.
Cheers and good luck,
