Analysis:After two draws in their last two meetings, Liverpool will start as hot favourites for tonight’s Champions League 2nd leg quarter-final with Arsenal and it must be said here that Rafa Benitez has more experience in the Champions League having reached the final last season only to lose to A.C Milan.
Arsenal virtually gave it everything last Saturday in the Premiership clash but still failed to beat Benitez’s Liverpool side. And now they find themselves 6 points behind Manchester United and three points behind Chelsea in third spot in the Premiership.
Wenger has refused to dramatise the situation that saying even if they do go out to Liverpool today, then they have done reasonable well to be in third in the Premiership as at the start of the season most people have written them off without the services of Theirry Henry and predicted they would finish in 10th to 12th spot.
Wenger will once again be without the injury prone striker Robin van Persie after he was withdrawn in the first half of their first leg due to thigh muscle injury. Emmanuel Adebayor who was rested in the 1-1 draw last Saturday in the Premiership tie will be available to start here after he was on the bench due to concerns of an ankle knock he sustained.
But Benitez virtually rested almost his entire squad against Arsenal last Saturday with at least 8 changes so, he is likely to name the same side which came up with the draw in the first leg. Benitez is counting on the likes of Fernando Torres as well as Captain Steven Gerrard to inspire the team and get his team to the semi-finals to possible face Chelsea who has the edge over Turkish side Fenerbahce.
Benitez is confident there will be a player in his side, be it Torres or Gerrard can make the difference here or even a mistake from Arsenal resulting from a free kick or coming up in a one to one situation.
Take Liverpool to win here and give the 1/4 ball away.
Cheers and good luck,
