Lambeau Field 20th January 2008
Green Bay Packers
Reg Season Record 13-3-0
Can Mr Farve get to the Super bowl it what could be his last season? I think he has already said that he may play on next season but I think that if he makes it to the big one and even more so wins it, he may just call it a day after what has been a great season so far.
Regular season saw the Packers go 13-3 and this would have been beyond any Packers wildest dreams. Now it needs to carry on if they are to beat the Giants at Lambeau field this weekend.
The first playoff game of the season for the Packers saw them beat Seattle with ease 42-20 after going 14-0 down very early in the game thanks to two fumbles by Ryan Grant (who is a rookie, I think). Now at the time I had backed the Packers and to see the 14-0 score line after only about 1-minute play did not make me a happy camper.
I have to say I hadn’t known much about Grant before this and the lad went right to the bottom of my Christmas card list after his two errors early on. Now a lot of coaches would have pulled the player out of the game but McCarthy didn’t and for me Grant went on to have one hell of a game and was the man of the match in what in the end was an easy Packers win.
New York Giants
Reg Season Record 10-6-0
The Giants finished second behind the team they beat last weekend, the Dallas Cowboys with a 10-6 record which in the end put them three game behind the Cowboys during the regular season, but this didn’t mean a thing when the Giants when to Cowboys Stadium and won there last weekend 21-17 to clinch their place in the Championship game this weekend.
Previous to this game they went to Tampa and won 24-14 so this is a team that don’t mind going on the road and more importantly don’t mind winning on the road with two win already in the playoffs and also a record of 7-1 away from Giants Stadium during the normal season.
So the Giants take their proud away record of nine wins out of ten games all season to the Packers and Eli will be hoping that this doesn’t prove one away game to far for them.
Verdict
This game is going to be a cracker for me, with two teams very much in form coming together. The winner of the game for me will be the one that makes the least errors and if Green Bay give the Giants the start that the Seahawks got then I can see the Giants winning.
The price for a Giant win is very tempting at 3.25, as I’ve already said I think this will be a close game.
However I'm going to bottle that and go for the Giants to win with the spread of +7.5 as I think this game may well be settled by only a field goal.
