Cagliari goes into this match knowing that they still have a chance of finishing in the Top Ten in Serie A, but for Lazio, it is make or break time if they are to play in the Europa League next season.

Cagliari have done better then last season when they finished in 15th spot by at least two spots and could yet finish in the top 10 should Parma and Chievo both fail to win their matches. It may be a tall order for Cagliari considering they are now five games without a win with practically nothing to play for in this match. By week 35 their position in Serie A has already been mathematically safe so their motivation may be eksewhere and minds already on holiday mood.

Lazio still have a chance to qualify for the Europa League. They need to win this match against Cagliari and at the same time hope Inter can do them a favour and beat Udinese who is currently in form.

And as Lazio and Udinese both have equal head to head records this season, then that means should both teams finish on equal points it could very well come down to goal difference on the night.

However, if Lazio fails in doing this, then their next hope will be beating AS Roma in the Coppa Italia Final next week. With one week to prepare for that derby however, Coach Vladimir Petkovic may not want to wait until the Roma match to hope for a passage to Europe, but to treat this game as a Final in itself.
