Preview
The top three places in La Liga that go with automatic qualification to the Group Stage of the Champions League have been wrapped up and there are now just two teams left to fight for the final position. That will give a team the chance to qualify for the Group Stage of the Champions League in August and one of those teams are Valencia.
At the start of the weekend games, Valencia are currently 5th in the table, although they do have the same number of points as Real Sociedad in the final Champions League place. Both teams have tough away games this weekend, but Valencia can really up the pressure if they can come to Getafe and pick up the win.
It won't be an easy task to win here considering Getafe are 9-4-4 in their home games this season and this is one of the final games of the season for them in front of their own fans. A couple of wins in their final two League games may also give Getafe a chance to once again play in European competition next season as Malaga are banned from qualifying and Getafe trail Real Betis by 5 points.
Getafe have only lost 1 of their last 14 home games in all competitions and they have picked up full points in 5 of their last 7 here including a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad last time out.
With Valencia winning only 5 of their 17 away games this season, there is no guarantee they will pick up the three points from this visit. The side have also won just 2 of their last 8 away games in all competitions.
Valencia beat Getafe 4-2 at home earlier this season, but they were beaten 3-1 here last season and have lost 2 of their last 3 away games here.
Prediction
While Getafe don't have a lot to play for and Valencia are desperate to get into the Champions League places, but that doesn't mean the odds make a lot of sense to me.
Getafe have proven to be a tough team to beat in front of their fans so I am surprised that Valencia are odds on to win here. Instead, I will simply back the home side to avoid defeat.
