Italian Serie A
2013-05-07 - AS Roma vs Chievo
A Sports Betting Pick by ROzsolt
Football : Italy : Serie A
Venue: "Stadio Olimpico", Rome
Tuesday 7th May – Kickoff time: 20:45 GMT+1
AS Roma (5th W17 D7 L11)
AS Roma secured an important win in Firenze on Saturday which pretty much assured AC Milan’s presence on the podium, leaving Fiorentina, Roma and Udinese to fight for the remaining two European spots.
Fiorentina controlled the game and had the better chances, but Roma’s striker Osvaldo scored with a header off what was the last kick of the game at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
AS Roma will now return to the Stadio Olimpico where they’ll receive Chievo’s visit, a team that is very close to secure their presence in the Italian top flight for the next season as well.
Goalkeeper Bogdan Lobont suffered an injury in Firenze which means that he’ll be replaced by Goicoechea, but fortunately for coach Andreazzoli there are no important absences for this match.
Chievo (13th W11 D7 L17)
As I mentioned before, Chievo is practically safe having reached 40 points with Saturday’s draw against Cagliari. The distance between them and the drop zone is now at eight points.
Chievo and Cagliari settled for a point in their Saturday stalemate in what was a typical end of the season Serie A clash between two sides with not much to play for.
The Flying Donkeys will now travel to Rome in an attempt to avoid a 13th away defeat, but it may be difficult to hold an AS Roma side that won four of their last five games in Serie A.
Coach Corini will be without Spyropoulo, Pellissier, Paloschi and Luca Rigoni for this match, the latter is suspended while the other ones are out through injuries.
The Betting Verdict
There should be no doubt about this match, on one side we have a fully motivated Roma side that has no major absences, on the other we have Chievo, a team that will come into this game with not much to play for.
AS Roma learned from their frustrating 1-1 home draw against bottom placed Pescara and bounced back with a solid 4-0 win over Siena in their previous match at the Olimpico, so I trust they’ll know how to handle Chievo here in order to pick up all points.
There’s not much value in backing Roma to win on the 1x2 market, so I'll take them to win HT/FT, but you could also try out the AH market or take them to win and at least three goals to be scored in the match.
