Football : Romania: Liga 1
Venue: "Tineretului" - Brasov
Saturday 4th May – Kickoff time: 14:00 GMT+2
Brasov (8th W11 D8 L9)
Brasov just recorded their second away victory of the season against relegation threatened CSMS Iasi to overcome CFR Cluj in the Liga 1 table.
Adrian Szabo’s side is currently placed eight and will want to remain there in order to finish the season in the first part of the table.
Brasov’s season was quite predictable, they’ve made the most of their home games with a solid W9 D2 L3 record, but their problems when playing on the road surfaced again, as I mentioned before they’ve only won two of their 14 away games.
The team from Brasov will seek to extend their unbeaten run at the “Tineretului” stadium to seven games, they’ve not lost a home match since November.
Rapid Bucuresti (7th W12 D8 L8)
Rapid Bucuresti is another team that is running well at the moment, despite their deep financial troubles the “Giulesti” based side is unbeaten in seven games.
Their only defeat in 2013 came against rivals Dinamo Bucuresti (0-1) at the beginning of March, but since then Rapid managed to hold both CFR Cluj and Steaua Bucuresti to draws.
Rapid will now travel to a city where they haven’t won since 2005, but their recent performances on the road are promising, they’ve won three of their last four away games.
The Betting Verdict
Rapid Bucuresti’s recent results have been surprising considering the fact that the players haven’t been paid for months, but they’ve showed a lot of character by continuing to give their best despite the situation.
However, playing in Brasov is always difficult for any Liga 1 side, so a team with not much motivation is very likely to end up losing there.
There’s not much at stake here, but a team from Bucharest visiting Brasov will always give the home side some extra incentive. Brasov was actually one of the two Liga 1 sides that managed to defeat leaders Steaua Bucuresti during this season (3-1).
Brasov won this fixture in 2012 and 2010 (the previous two) back when Rapid had a much better squad, so I’ll back them to make it three in a row.
The Pick :
Brasov 1-0 Rapid Bucuresti
