PREVIEW
A pari of 9 win teams go head to head tonight, and I'm changing tact and looking at the totals market.
The Los Angeles Angels are 9-13 for the season, and send out Joe Blanton, owner of a dire 0-3 record with a 7.84ERA. He could well give up enough runs on his own to send this one over, as you can see from his previous starts this season, each of which have produced 10 runs or more. He has allowed at least 4 runs in each of his 4 starts and has given up 38 hits on just under 21 innings of work. Awful.
The Seattle Mariners are 9-16 now, and are sending Felix Hernandez to the hill. That's a big name pitcher, the King, but look past his 2.08ERA here because the opponent is a familiar one. Hernandez is just 2-2 this season but he may well be the owner of a losing record by the end of this. You see, the Angels luurve Felix. They have hit 22 homers off his pitches and given him a 4.07ERA against them!
That is overall. Just looking at last year, he went 0-3 against them, with an ERA of 6.25! He's in a bad spot here, because the Angels have been hitting in recent games. They scored 6 last night in a 6-3 win over the Mariners, and have scored a combined 48 through their last 9 games, an average of well over 5 per game.
BETTING VERDICT
I'm surprised to see the total for this one set at just 7, and I think we have to take the value price on the over. This total could be reached while the two mentioned starters are playing, and with the dodgy bullpens behind them, who knows what happens!
The Pick :
Los Angeles Angels 6-5 Seattle Mariners
