Sampdoria (14th W10 D9 L14)
Sampdoria extended their winless run to six games in Serie A after playing out a 1-1 draw in Bologna last time around. The result kept Doria on the 14th place, with a nine point gap over the relegation zone.
La Samp travelled to Bologna without suspended defenders Andrea Costa and Lorenzo De Silvestri while striker Eder and Nenad Krsticic both missed out through injury, but they managed to come from behind to grab a point at the Renato Dall’Ara.
Nenad Krsticic remains the only absence for Sampdoria after suffering an ankle injury in the derby against Genoa, but luckily for him he won’t require surgery.
According to gazzetta.it coach Delio Rossi will probably prefer Sansone to Icardi to partner Maxi Lopez up front.
Fiorentina (4th W17 D7 L9)
Fiorentina is coming into this match on the back of two consecutive wins and are currently just one point behind AC Milan in the race for the last Champions League place.
The distance could have been higher, but La Viola needed substitute Romulo to come off the bench and save the day at the Artemio Franchi last weekend after Torino miraculously came from 3-0 down to almost grab a point.
Fiorentina suffered a lot on the road in 2013, but it seems like Montella found the solution to their problems and La Viola have won two of their last three away games in Serie A.
Montella will now travel to Genoa with his best eleven at his disposal, offensive trio Ljajic, Jovetic and Cuadrado is expected to make the difference at the Luigi Ferraris.
The Betting Verdict
Sampdoria is relatively safe at the moment with the nine point gap over the drop zone, which is probably why coach Delio Rossi was unable to motivate his side recently. As I mentioned before, Sampdoria have not won any of their last six games in Serie A.
Fiorentina on the other hand has found a way to get back to winning ways and thanks to some slip-ups from AC Milan they are now just one point away from the podium and have five more games to overcome the Rossoneri to grab the last CL spot.
I wouldn’t feel comfortable backing Fiorentina at these odds even if they are the likely winner, after all they’ve lost half of their away games during this season. I’m quite sure they’ll score at least once though, Cuadrado is in great form and he’ll have the support of Jovetic and Ljajic, so I can’t see Sampdoria’s defense holding on for 90 minutes.
