PREVIEW
San Francisco's Giants have the chance to sweep the San Diego Padres when they meet later today, and I believe they will, as they get to face a southpaw pitcher, something they have absolutely relished of late. They also badly want the sweep as they have just come off being swept by Milwaukee!
San Diego are just 5-12 for the season, including 4-7 when on the road. The Padres send out southpaw Eric Stults, who is 2-1 with a 3.94ERA. Don't be fooled by the numbers though. He has been hit for 7 runs in his last 11 innings of work spanning 2 games, and his h2h numbers aren't great against the Giants, with a 5.10ERA. He has a 4-2 record, but that's down to his team bailing him out by scoring.
San Francisco are 11-7, including a dominant 6-2 at home. In fact, going back to last season, the Giants have now won 15 of their last 19 home games! The hand the ball to Barry Zito, who is coming off a loss. However, that loss was his first after 16 straight wins, so I' calling it an anomaly. Sure, 9 runs were given up over 3 innings but he did have 2 straight wins to start the season, throwing 7 shutout innings in his first start and doing the same in the 2nd! He is 2-1 with a misleading 4.86ERA.
