PREVIEW
Atlanta had their winning streak ended but they came back with a 6-4 win yesterday in the opener against Pittsburgh. They should be able to notch another win tonight, as they have the pitching advantage. They're a perfect 7-0 away from home, and a perfect 13-0 in games where they have scored!
The Braves send out Tim Hudson, owner of a 2-0 record and a 2.50ERA. He's on 199 wins and will want to notch No. 200 tonight. If he pitches the way he has been, it looks a cert, because he has given up just 2 runs in 2 starts.
Hudson also has a 2.90ERA through 12 starts against Pittsburgh, and that actually gets better, down to 2.55 when he has done his pitching in the Pirates home field. It's not just here, for Hudson seems to thrive as a visiting pitcher. He has gone 9-1 in his last 10 road decisions!
The Pirates counter with a southpaw - Wandy Rodriguez. He is 1-0 with a 1.00ERA but he did leave his last start after just 2 innings due to injury and then missed his next start, instead pitching out of the bullpen. He did well, so he comes back in to make a start here, but I wouldn't trust him against the Braves, who are hammering out 5.29 per game!
Rodriguez has a 3-3 record against Atlanta through 12 appearances, including 11 starts. His ERA during those appearances is 3.41.
BETTING VERDICT
How are Pittsburgh going to score on Hudson, who last gave up a homer in 2002!! He's pitched almost 43 innings in this venue since without giving up another, and I think he might keep the Pirates very, very quiet tonight. Away win.
The Pick :
Atlanta Braves 5-2 Pittsburgh Pirates
