In recent h2h matches at the Bernabeu, Real Betis have not done well at all. They lost 4-1 on the last trip, in 2011, and in 2009 they went down 6-1. Obviously, one shouldn't pay too much attention to those as it was a while back. So how have they done recently?
Well. Earlier this season they won 1-0 at home, blanking the reigning champions. And the match before that was a year ago, last season, when they lost 2-3 at home. Still, 3 goals scored in 2 games is decent, and I think they may well come away with a goal or two, if not a win.
Real Madrid should surely win this, but I am put off by the extremely low price. The price is fair, given the gulf in class and ability, recent form but there lingers a worry about Real messing up before a big European clash in midweek that might have them distracted.
While teams like Bayern Munich will routinely smash local teams to build confidence for a CL game, Madrid have a few times slipped up, so it puts me off.
Add to that the way Betis have scored in recent games, and you wonder whether they might make it a great day for the bookies, who will surely take a lot of bets on Madrid winning, as usual. Real Betis are off a 3-3 draw at home against Seville, and before that ran out 5-1 winners away at Granada. That's momentum, and I think it serves them well in this match.
