PLYMOUTH ARGYLE
Plymouth Argyle take on third placed Rotherham United who currently occupy an automatic promotion berth up to League One, but they face a tricky trip to the west country at Home Park on Saturday afternoon.
Plymouth Argyle have been in good nick in recent weeks having won five of their last seven matches with wins over Fleetwood Town, Southend United, arch-rivals Exeter City, Cheltenham Town and Chesterfield in midweek which has really turned around The Pilgrims’ season after they’d looked odds on to be one of the relegation candidates in the lead-up to the Christmas period.
Plymouth’s home record has now improved to 8-7-7 25/23 and they’ve won their last three at Home Park on the trot and have actually lost just once in their last nine matches on home soil which gives them every chance of getting something against visiting Rotherham United here this afternoon.
ROTHERHAM UNITED
Visitors Rotherham United will be looking for a fourth successive League Two win when they make the long trip down south west to Plymouth, but they’ll be looking nervously over their shoulders to Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town who are both away from home also, but very much still in touch for an automatic promotion spot themselves.
Rotherham appear to have got over their recent sticky patch where they lost three out of four matches with defeats against Cheltenham Town, Gillingham and Morecambe, but they’ve managed to set the ship back on course with successive wins over Exeter City 4-1, Fleetwood Town 2-1 and Bradford City away 2-0 during midweek.
The Millermen’s away record stands at 9-6-7 29/30 but I am still not convinced with their form on the road particularly with the heat being turned up on them with just two matches to go and the finish line almost in sight.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
Plymouth have been in good form at Home Park recently and I reckon they’re worth a chance for at least a point here this afternoon, with perhaps a better than outside chance of taking all three points. I’ll back them with the handicap in what could be a 1-1 draw.
