Juventus returns to Serie A after their exit in the Champions League when they were beaten by Bayern Munich 2-0 in Turin in their Champions League quarter-final second leg. Juventus still has a nine point lead at the top of Serie A over nearest rivals Napoli. Though they look set to retain the Scudetto title they won last season, they will want to make sure they get the win in this match.
Antonio Conte, the coach of Juventus knows the trip to the Stadio Olimpico cannot be taken lightly as Lazio showed they can surprised when they beat Roma there. Juventus has no suspensions going into this match with only Giovinco out through injury. There will also be added incentive for Juventus to get the win here as they have failed to do that in their past three meetings this season and also lost to Lazio in the Coppa Italia.
Lazio's chances of a place in the Champions League spot is unlikely but still Vladimir Petkovic can be proud of what he has achieved this season. Lazio did well to cope with the absence of Miroslav Klose through injury and he has recovered from his injury and even played in the Rome derby last weekend. Petrovic is likely to start with him once again in this match.
Despite playing with 10 men, Lazio continued to press against Roma, as was evident from the training methods employed by Petrovic and their never say die attitude. However, fatigue could very well be a factor in this game as they are without quite a few key players. The likes of Giuseppe Biava, Senad Lulic and Stefan Radu are suspended, while Cristian Brocchi, Andre Dias and Bruno Pereirinha are out through injury. Petkovic will likely stick with Ogenyi Onazi in the centre of midfield while Marius Stankevicius will be brought in.
Juventus will want to get the win here with matches against Milan coming up followed by the trip to cross-town rivals Torino still to play. And the last time Juve failed to beat Lazio during the season was back in 2005-06, since then Juventus does have a pretty impressive record of eight wins and three draws against Lazio in Serie A.
