Miami are now 2-8 after registering a 2-1 win over the Phillies yesterday, getting the winning run at the bottom of the 9th. The day before, we had a winner on the Phillies to win by a few, as they took the opener of this series 3-1 after 10 innings. Both games have been close, and while I'm not surprised by Miami's lack of runs, the low output by the Phillies has been a bit strange. I think that changes and they get the win in today's rubber.
The Phillies go with Roy Halladay today, who is still looking for his first win of the season, and 200th of his career. He is 0-2 with a 14.73ERA, after giving up 7 runs in 4 innings against the Mets. The Phillies lost 7-2 and that was Halladay's 2nd loss of the season. He has not opened 0-2 in almost 10 years, and I think he stops the rut against a Marlins side he has a 7-4 record against, with a 3.09ERA that he could improve on as they continue to have problems scoring.
The Marlins have Kevin Slowey pitching for them, and they really need to give the poor guy some run support. He has a 2.19ERA through 2 starts, but has a 0-2 record because through those games his batters didn't score a single run! He gave up just 2 runs against Atlanta but that was 2 more than he could afford. I know it might look like his form is worth backing but aside from betting against Miami because of their offensive ineptitude, I have to go against Slowey here because having been kept quiet through 2 games, I expect Philadelphia to hit him today.
Bear in mind, Slowey did not pitch in the MLB last year because of a rib injury, so I'm not jumping on the bandwagon when he's been back for just 2 games, both losses. He has faced the Phillies just once before, where he was hammered for 7 runs in just under 2 innings!
BETTING VERDICT
Miami got another win yesterday, but this is a poor, poor team, and I'm not about to stick money on them getting back to back wins. Go with the Phillies to win today.
