Football : English Premier League
Venue: The Britannia Stadium
Sunday 14th April 2013 – Kickoff time 14:05
Match Preview :
After losing in the derby defeat to Manchester City, Premiership leaders Manchester United will want to bounce back at the expense of Stoke City. The defeat against City was their second in a row which surprisingly was only the second time this season they suffered back to back defeats.
Manchester United still hold a 12 point lead at the top and with Manchester City not playing this weekend as they are involved in the FA Cup, United will want it to go back to 15 points, at least until City take to the field in the Premiership again.
Stoke comes into this match on a very poor run of form. In their last 13 Premiership games they have managed just one win and just five points collected. Last weekend they were beaten by Aston Villa 3-1 and that left them just three points outside of the bottom three, but with Wigan on FA Cup involvement this weekend, Stoke still have a chance of some breathing space in their battle of being dragged into the relegation spot.
Pulis knows he is under pressure now with his side having a poor record against Manchester United as well. For the record, since they got promoted to the Premiership, Stoke have taken just one point against United in nine games! When they met in October, despite taking the lead in that match, Manchester United won that match 4-2 with Wayne Rooney scoring a brace.
Team News :
Stoke Team News :
Stoke will check on the fitness of midfielder Matthew Etherington (back) and defender Marc Wilson (back/hamstring) before kickoff. Both players were forced off in the defeat to Aston Villa in their last match.
Midfielder Glenn Whelan is set to return after a back problem.
Manchester United Team News :
United will be without Ashley Young after the winger was ruled out for two weeks with an ankle injury after the City match.
Meanwhile, Captain Nemanja Vidic returned to training on Friday after recovering from a calf injury. Jonny Evans should be available after a hamstring strain which caused him to miss their last two matches.
Predictions :
Go for Manchester United to win and give the 3/4 ball here.
