Inter Milan will want to bounce back after they were beaten by Atalanta going down at home 4-3. The game was best remembered after Atalanta was given a penalty to which many Inter officials and players were not happy about.
Javier Zanetti who is usually calm backed the shouts of conspiracy against them when he said:
“It happens to us quite often. We’re paying for the fact that we’re different.”
But other then the penalty decision, it has to be said that Inter Milan was guilty of throwing away the 3-1 lead the enjoyed in the game.
Inter's defence has been guilty of committing schoolboy mistakes, compared to last year when it was difficult to score against them. The likes of Juan Jesus and Andrea Ranocchia has not played to expectations and that has affected the team drastically. To make matters worse, Andrea Stramaccioni also has to contend with an increasing number of injuries with Antonio Cassano the latest to be sidelined. Inter will hope that Ricky Alvarez can repeat his good performance against Atalanta in this match.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo Palacio is not expected to be back until the midweek Coppa Italia game against Roma, and Tommaso Rocchi is the only front-man available for Inter. Ezequiel Schelotto is suspended for this game for his part in the later stages against Atalanta which caused him to be sent off.
Cagliari despite having seen club President Massimo Cellino arrested and also having to play three different stadiums as their designated home stadium, they are still doing well sitting in 10th spot in Serie A.
They are well clear of the relegation battle and in fact they have won their last three games at ‘home’ seeing off the likes of Fiorentina and Sampdoria along the way. Since the start of 2013, Cagliari have yet to lose their "home" matches.
It can be said that Ivo Pulga has changed this side around. There is also a possibility that Cagliari could finish in the top-half of the table for only the second time since their return to Serie A in 2004-05 is testament to the work that has been done by Pulga since he took over the side.
Cagliari have only conceded two goals in their last four games and with the exception of Radja Nainggolan who is suspended, they have almost a fully fit squad to face Inter here. Marco Sau and Mauricio Pinilla are combining well up front and they should start in a 4-4-2 formation for this match.
However, Inter desperately needs the three points to keep their very slim hopes of a third place finish come end season. I can't say that Inter cannot do it, but if they do win, it will be by a single goal. So that means it would best to get on Total Goals Under 2 1/2 here.
