Palermo (18th W5 D12 L14)
Palermo’s bid to survival received a huge boost last week as the Sicilians managed to record their first away win of the season, with a 3-1 victory over Sampdoria in Genoa.
It’s also the first time during this season when Palermo records back to back victories, their last before these two was obtained back in November.
It seems like reappointing Giuseppe Sannino was an inspired decision from president Maurizio Zamparini, the former even apologized for sacking Sannino after just three games at the beginning of the campaign.
Palermo is now 18th on the Serie A table, with the same number of points as 17th placed Siena, so they now have the chance to climb above the line after a long period spent in the bottom three.
Bologna (12th W10 D7 L14)
Bologna have only lost one of their last six Serie A games and as a result they sit on a comfortable 12 position at the moment, 10 points above the drop zone.
Their only defeat during this period was caused by leaders and champions Juventus, but it’s also true that Bologna are winless in the last three matches, having drawn in Udine and at home against Torino.
Stefano Pioli’s side showed a lot of character in their previous game against Torino, when they managed to complete a comeback after going down 1-0 in the first half, but in the third and final minute of stoppage time, Torino’s Bianchi salvaged a point for the guests.
The Rossoblu will now travel to Palermo in an attempt to avoid a sixth consecutive defeat there and will probably have to do it without playmaker Diamanti who picked up a knock recently.
The Betting Verdict
It seems like Palermo’s influential players have finally managed to step up and rise to the expectations before it was too late for the Sicilians, both Miccoli and Ilicic played very well in Palermo’s back to back victories.
They are the driving force in this Palermo’s side and I expect them to be at the top of their game once again, every game from now on could be decisive for Sannino’s side.
Bologna still needs some work to do in the remaining games, but they could get the job done at home with one or two wins that would secure their survival in Serie A.
I’m not saying that this match is not important for them, it’s just that Bologna’s not playing with their backs against the wall which could mean that Palermo will probably be more determined to pick up the points with their fans behind them.
