Chievo (16th W10 D5 L16)
Chievo was unable to avoid the defeat last weekend against a Di Natale inspired Udinese side and recorded their second consecutive loss after the 0-1 home defeat to AC Milan.
These results saw Chievo drop to the 16th place and unless they get back to winning ways they could get dragged into the relegation battle. The 8 points distance between them and the drop zone looks comfortable, but there are still seven games to play.
Andreolli, Drame, Dainelli and Cofie were all suspended for the Udinese game which could be an explanation for Chievo’s poor performance, but luckily for coach Corini he will now be able to use all of them in the starting line-up against Catania.
Striker Paloschi will also return to the starting line-up to partner Thereau up front, the Italian striker who has 7 goals to his name only came in as a substitute late in the second half against Udinese.
Catania (16th W13 D7 L11)
Catania’s Europa League bid received another blow as the Sicilians were held to a goalless draw by Cagliari in their previous game at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.
Rolando Maran's could actually be happy with the point, the guests failed to convert a host of chances in the second half culminating with a huge opportunity wasted by Pinilla.
With only one win from their last five Serie A matches, Catania missed a huge chance to close the gap on Lazio and Inter Milan, both sides going through a rough patch.
Catania will now travel to Verona in an attempt to avoid a third consecutive defeat on the road, but they’ll have to do it without midfielder Almiron who is still recovering from an injury.
The Betting Verdict
Catania missed a golden opportunity on their previous travel when they took the lead at the Olimpico against Lazio, but were unable to absorb the late pressure and succumbed to a 1-2 defeat that could be decisive in the battle for a Europa League spot.
The Sicilians will probably go for the win, there’s not a lot to lose at this point in the competition for them, but winning in Verona against Chievo is quite a challenge, only four sides managed to pick up all points there.
This is a tricky match that could go either way, so I’ll turn my attention to the goals market once again where we are being offered an excellent price for both teams to score in this game.
Before the 0-1 defeat to AC Milan, Chievo scored at least once in their last six games at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi, I just hope that we’ll get some help from a Catania side that has fired blanks in some of their away games recently, but they certainly have the quality grab a goal here.
This fixture has offered a lot of goals over the years, only one of the last ten clashes between these two ended without goals from the both sides, a 1-0 Catania victory back in 2008.
