Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers must truly believe there are some real positives to take from some of the performances his Liverpool side have put in over the last couple of months. The fans are definitely feeling better after last season's disappointment, while the players haven't given up on their chances of finishing in the top four in the Premier League.

Liverpool are 8th in the Premier League at the moment, but a win in this game would move them up to 6th in the table and within 7 points of 4th placed Chelsea. It is probably too late to make a real effort to get into the top four, but it does say something about the confidence the players have that they are still talking about this possibility. Liverpool have a 7-3-4 record at Anfield this season and they have scored 27 goals and conceded 12 in those games.

The side have won 3 in a row in all competitions and have scored 12 goals in those games. Liverpool have won 5 of their last 6 home games in all competitions with the one exception being the game where West Brom robbed Liverpool with a 0-2 win at Anfield. Liverpool have scored 17 goals in their last 6 home games in all competitions.

Martin Skrtel and Daniel Sturridge are both available for selection in this game.

Tottenham Hotspur

After finishing in the top four last season, but missing a Champions League place due to Chelsea winning the competition, Tottenham Hotspur have put themselves back in a strong position to qualify for the premier European competition. A 2-1 win over local rivals Arsenal last weekend and a 3-0 win over Inter Milan on Thursday has only increased the positive vibes felt at White Hart Lane.

The win over Arsenal pushed Spurs up to 3rd in the table and they can really put down a marker in the race to finish in the top four if they can win at Anfield. Tottenham have a 7 point lead over Arsenal in 5th place and bring in a 8-2-4 away record in the League where they have scored 27 goals and conceded 19.

Tottenham have only been beaten once in their last 17 games in all competitions and they are unbeaten in their last 8. However, that doesn't complete the picture of a side in very good form as they have won 6 of their last 7 games to put themselves in a good position in both the League and the Europa League. Spurs are unbeaten in their last 4 away games in all competitions since a 2-1 loss to Leeds United in the FA Cup, while they are unbeaten in 6 away Premier League games.

Aaron Lennon may miss out after straining a hamstring against Inter Milan, but Emmanuel Adebayor should be available. Tom Huddlestone and Clint Dempsey may also be missing.

Head to Head

Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane earlier this season to extend their recent good form against the Reds.

Spurs are unbeaten in 5 games against Liverpool, including on their last 2 visits to Anfield.

Before those latest 2 visits, Liverpool had won 4 of 5 games at Anfield against Spurs.

Prediction

Considering Tottenham Hotspur have won 4 of the last 5 League games against Liverpool and are unbeaten on their last 2 visits to Anfield, the odds on quotes for a Liverpool win certainly look far too short.

Liverpool have certainly been playing well at home in recent games and definitely have a lot of goals in the side, but Spurs are very much suited to playing away from home and that is shown by the fact that Manchester United are the only side to have more games on their travels in the League so far.

I did think Spurs could win here at Anfield, but the absence of Aaron Lennon could reduce their effectiveness to counter Liverpool. There should also be goals for both sides in this one and it is hard to imagine either side getting a clean sheet in this one.

With that in mind, and the amount of goals going in Anfield in recent games, a small interest on over 3.5 goals looks a decent shout.
