Cagliari (14th W8 D7 L12)
Nothing announced such a severe Cagliari defeat last Sunday, but Ivo Pulga’s side succumbed to a 0-3 loss in Bologna which made them drop to the 14th place.
Cagliari was going into that match on the back of a seven games unbeaten run, but Saphir Taider’s early opener put Bologna in the leading seat of the game before Diamanti and Pasquato added gloss to the scoreline.
Cagliari will now return to the Is Arenas to face Sampdoria, but they’ll have to do it behind closed doors once again, the fans were excluded for the fifth time this season due to ongoing safety concerns.
However, the last time Cagliari played here behind closed doors they’ve managed to pick up three points in a thrilling encounter against Torino that ended 4-3 for the Sardinians.
Captain Daniele Conti is a doubt due to injury while Francesco Pisano serves a one-match ban following his dismissal against Bologna.
Sampdoria (10th W10 D6 L11)
Sampdoria’s excellent run continued on Sunday with a narrow 1-0 win over Parma which takes them into the top half of the table.
Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante’s second half mistake allowed Argentinian striker Icardi to score the decisive goal which caused Parma’s fifth defeat in six games.
The Genoa based side will now be looking for their first away victory since the shocking 2-1 success over champions Juventus back in January.
They’ll have to do it without defender Gastaldello and midfielder Krsticic though, both are suspended for this match.
The Betting Verdict
Coach Ivo Pulga declared that the 0-3 defeat to Bologna was nothing more than an accident and that they’ll get back to their winning ways starting with this match against Sampdoria.
I like Cagliari here to bounce back with a win, but the fact that they’ve conceded at least one goal in every one of their last eight home games is something to be worried about.
After what we’ve seen in Cagliari’s previous game at the Is Arenas against Torino (4-3), I think there are premises to see some goal in this one as well, even though Sampdoria played out two consecutive goalless draws on the road recently, which is probably the reason for getting both teams to score at evens.
