Atalanta (15th W9 D5 L13)
Atalanta bounced back after two consecutive defeats with a vital 2-0 win over Siena which moves them nine points clear of the Serie A drop zone.
Italian winger Giacomo Bonaventura proved to be the man after opening the scoring with a super strike early in the man only to secure the victory midway through the second half. It was Bonaventura’s fifth and sixth goal of the season, which makes him the second best scorer after German Denis.
Atalanta will now be looking to put further distance between them and the relegation zone and also improve their modest home record. The Bergamo based side hold a 5-3-5 home record with a negative goal balance (-3).
Gian Bellini, Lionel Scaloni and Guido Marilungo will miss out through injury while midfielder Carlos Carmona serves a one-match ban.
Pescara (19th W6 D3 L18)
After losing seven of their last eight Serie A games, Pescara’s management decided to sack coach Cristiano Bergodi in the wake of Sunday’s defeat to Udinese.
Bergodi took over from Giovanni Stroppa, but the former Pescara player was unable to meet the demands and left the team five points from safety.
Former youth-team coach Bucchi will be taking over, but his task to lead Pescara to survival in their first season back in Serie A should be almost impossible to accomplish under the current circumstances.
Eugenio Togni, Ferdinando Sforzini, Francesco Modesto and Ciro Capuano will not travel to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia due to injury.
The Betting Verdict
Atalanta’s fans have not seen their favorites prevail in a home game since a 2-1 win over Parma back in December. A match against a modest Pescara side that seems to have given up the fight should be the perfect opportunity for them to get back to winning ways.
Pescara brought in Per Kroldrup in February as a free agent in an attempt to strengthen their shaky defense and we’ll probably see him debuting at his new team, but I don’t think he’ll be able to make much of a difference. Pescara conceded 54 goals this season (an average of two per game), more than any other Serie A side.
Taking Atalanta to win should be a safe bet even though the odds are not too attractive, but I’ll take the home side to score at least twice for a slightly better payout against a Pescara team that conceded 11 goals in their last four away games in Serie A.
