Football : English Premier League
Venue: St James Park, Newastle
Sunday 10th March 2013 – Kickoff time 15:00
Match Preview :
Newcastle comes into this match being six points clear of the relegation zone, have won their last two league games at home and in midweek managed to come away with the draw with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala despite Guus Hiddink's side being strong at home.
Alan Pardew did rest some of his first team players at home and to get the draw and bring the tie back to St James Park is indeed a good achievement.
Meanwhile Stoke comes into this match in poor form having managed just two wins from 11 matches since the start of the year. It is thus little surprise that they have dropped to 11th in the standings and if they suffer a defeat here then Newcastle can go level on points with them.
Stoke, who have lost four of their last six matches 1-0, scored twice in the last 10 minutes to claim a 2-1 win when the two sides met at the Britannia Stadium earlier in the season. But Newcastle seldom draw their home matches. They have managed 7 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats.
For the record, Stoke have failed to score in five of their last six Premier League away games while their total of 8 away goals scored away from home is the lowest of all the teams in the Premiership, even QPR, bottom of the Premiership has scored 13 goals away from home.
Team News :
Newcastle Team News :
Pardew made seven changes for the trip to Anzhi and a number of players are likely to return to the starting lineup for the match with Stoke. However, Fabricio Coloccini will not be one of those players returning after it was revealed that he will be out for up to seven weeks after breaking two bones in his back.
Star striker Papiss Cisse missed the clash with Anzhi due to sickness but is set to return to the starting lineup. Meanwhile, Mathieu Debuchy and Yoan Gouffran are available again after being ineligible in Europe.
Stoke Team News :
Central defender Robert Huth is still unavailable as he sits out the second of a three-match ban for violent conduct. Huth's absence leaves the away side exposed at the back and Marc Wilson could again come in in the centre of defence.
Stoke boss Tony Pulis has no new injury worries, with Steven N'Zonzi continuing to play on after breaking his nose against Fulham two weeks ago.
Predictions :
Based on their strong home form where the Magpies seldom draw matches, go for Newcastle to get the home win here and for the Asian Handicap give the 3/4 ball.
