A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Watford v Sheffield Wednesday
Football: English Championship
Tuesday 5 March 2013 - Kick Off 7:45pm

Watford

It looked like Watford had done just enough to secure three points on Friday night at Wolves, but they were punished for missing a host of chances as the home team secured a last minute draw. However, they remain firmly in the mix for an automatic promotion spot, although they will be well aware that they cannot afford to drop too many points at home down the stretch.

The 1-1 draw coupled with Hull City's win on Saturday means Watford are now 3rd in the Championship, although they remain just 7 points behind leaders Cardiff City. Watford have a 9-3-5 record at Vicarage Road this season, scoring 30 goals and conceding 19 in those games.

Watford are unbeaten in their last 6 games in the Championship, winning 4 of those, heading into this game on Tuesday night. They are unbeaten in their last 4 home games in the League and have won 3 of those games, while Watford have scored at least 2 goals in 6 straight home games in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday

Dave Jones' men had been in good form recently, but that came to an end with a 0-1 home loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Despite the run of form, Sheffield Wednesday will still be nervously looking over their shoulder as the teams below them in the table continue finding ways to close the gap.

Sheffield Wednesday dropped to 20th in the Championship thanks to their loss against Nottingham Forest and they now have a 4 point buffer between themselves and Peterborough United in the final relegation place. The side have a 5-4-7 record away from home this season, scoring 17 goals and conceding 19 in those games.

A 7 game unbeaten run in the Championship was brought to an end on Saturday, although Sheffield Wednesday will still have some belief in their form away from home. Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in their last 6 away games in the League, winning 4 including at Hull City. However, the other 5 games have come against sides in the bottom half of the table.

Head to Head

Watford beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-4 at Hillsborough earlier this season.

This is the first time the sides will have met at Vicarage Road since the 2009/10 season when Watford recorded a 4-1 win.

Watford are unbeaten in their last 6 home games against Sheffield Wednesday and they have won 5 of those games.

Prediction

Sheffield Wednesday have been in very good form away from home recently, but the fact that 5 of their last 6 have come against sides in the bottom half of the table (when Sheffield Wednesday played them) suggests that this will be much tougher for them.

The win at Hull City was impressive, but Watford are arguably the most in-form team in the Championship and they have been scoring plenty of goals at Vicarage Road recently while winning 3 of 4 here.

After Friday night, I expect Watford to get on the front foot early and try and take the game to Sheffield Wednesday. I expect the home side to score goals and I wouldn't be surprised if they are leading at half time before going on to win this one.

The Pick :

Watford 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday
