HARTLEPOOL UNITED
Second from bottom club Hartlepool United will be looking to return to their recent good form when they return to their Victoria Park ground to host Colchester United in Tuesday night’s League One fixture.
A 0-3 defeat at Doncaster Rovers at the weekend halted Hartlepool’s recent improved run of form but they’ll be hoping that this is just a temporary blip following their impressive run of seven matches unbeaten prior to their visit to the Keepmoat. Wins over Portsmouth (away), Notts County, Leyton Orient, Scunthorpe United and Crewe Alexandra along with the downward decline of Portsmouth (it must be said), has enabled Pools to climb off the bottom of League One but they still remain eight points adrift of Scunthorpe and safety.
However, confidence breeds success and whilst it was disappointing for them to have had their run stopped, realistically even a point at Doncaster would have been a remarkable achievement. Anyway, they return to Victoria Park where they’re unbeaten in their last four and their home record stands at a much improved 4-4-9 16/24.
COLCHESTER UNITED
Unpredictable Colchester United make the long trip up north to face a much-improved Hartlepool side but Colchester have also pulled off a couple of good wins lately; a 2-0 home win over Yeovil Town was backed up with a 2-0 away win at Stevenage on the weekend, but I must point out that Stevenage are on a horror run of form right now having lost their last six League One matches on the trot.
Colchester’s away record currently stands at a disappointing 4-2-11 14/30 and they have the unwanted distinction of having lost the most away games in the division so far. Colchester have also failed to score on nine occasions from their seventeen away matches so far along with failing to score in three of their last five which must hand a slight advantage to Hartlepool here.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
With home advantage and recent good form at Victoria Park I’ll give the edge here to Hartlepool but I recommend taking the round ball so it ends up a draw you get your stake returned. Hartlepool could edge this one 2-1 though.
