NOTTINGHAM FOREST
A rejuvenated Nottingham Forest take on bottom half club Ipswich Town at their City Ground on Tuesday night as they look to continue their good start under new manager Billy Davies who has recently returned to Forest.
Nottingham Forest have now won their last three Championship matches on the trot with good wins over Huddersfield Town 6-1, and away wins at Charlton Athletic 2-0 and Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at the weekend, and despite all the upheaval in the background with managers coming and going, Forest are still in the frame for a late challenge on the top six and a play-off place.
At home, Nottingham Forest have been hard to beat having lost just once in their last seven matches at the City Ground which was a 0-3 defeat to third placed Watford, but recent wins over Peterborough and Huddersfield Town along with points taken off Crystal Palace and a Bolton side who are making a late surge up the table, have kept them in the hunt for a play-off berth.
Forest’s home record currently stands at 8-5-4 28/21 but they will be confident of making further improvements to these stats with the visit of Ipswich Town on Tuesday night.
IPSWICH TOWN
Visitors Ipswich Town have recently posted a couple of impressive wins in the Championship with victories over Blackpool and Leicester City at the weekend, but bear in mind that these wins were achieved at Portman Road while away from home they continue to be inconsistent.
Ipswich Town have picked up just two points from the last possible 12 courtesy of points at Cardiff City in a 0-0 draw and another 0-0 stalemate at Huddersfield Town in their last trip, but suffered defeats at bottom club Bristol City 1-2 and Blackburn Rovers 0-1 which has seen them remain in the lower half of the division.
Ipswich’s overall away record stands at a so-so 5-4-8 12/30 with their main problem being scoring goals on the road, the lowest return in the division so far. In fact, the Tractor Boys have failed to score in eight of their 17 away matches so far (almost half), and they’ve drawn a blank in three of their last five on their travels which doesn’t bode well for a trip to a Forest side whose confidence has been renewed.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
The return of Billy Davies at Forest shouldn't be underestimated and with their improved confidence plus some recent improved form at the City Ground, I’ll take Nottingham Forest for the straight win here tonight; could be a 2-1 win for the Tricky Trees.
The Pick :
