BETTING PREVIEW
Tottenham 1-0 win at West Brom took them ever closer to 3rd placed Chelsea, who are just 1 point ahead. The team sitting 4th must now negotiate Newcastle United, who have been scoring a few goals of late. Newcastle stunned Chelsea in the last game, and will look for the scalp of Tottenham, who are shorn of Defoe, who was injured against Brazil and faces more than a month out.
Tottenham will call on Adebayor, who is finished with the ACN, but I have concerns about how quickly he will settle in as international duty does cause disruption, and an international tournament is even worse. Gareth Bale has popped up with the 2 goals Tottenham have scored in their last 2 games, the equaliser at Norwich and the solitary winner at West Brom, but there is a worry Newcastle could do them here. Hope. I meant to say hope. :)
Newcastle showed a shedload of fight last week. They blew their lead to Chelsea who went 2-1 up, but Newcastle not only equalised but went and scored a winner too. 3-2, and that impressive result was the 2nd straight win, following a 2-1 result over Aston Villa. The Toon are now 15th, and have scored 6 goals in their last 3 games.
Tottenham at home are proving a handful. They came back to hold Manchester United a couple of weeks back, and could have had a winner. Before that, they belted 3 past Coventry in the FA Cup. At home, they have been dominant against Newcastle too, winning the last 2 meetings here 5-0 and 2-0. However, the reverse from this season finished 2-1 at Newcastle, and lets not forget Newcastle scored 2 against Manchester United and 3 at Arsenal, so they are not goal shy.
THE BETTING VERDICT
The odds on the home win are too low for me, so I will opt for the safer option of both teams to score in a game that could go either way.
