Oldham Athletic take on mid-table MK Dons at Boundary Park as they look to climb out of the bottom four of the division and halt a miserable run of four straight defeats.
OLDHAM ATHLETIC
Oldham have slipped down into the bottom four of the division now having not played in midweek due to their postponement against Yeovil Town, but given Yeovil’s current run of form, The Latics might have done well to swerve that one!
As it is, Oldham have suffered four straight defeats lately with losses against Brentford, Coventry City, Notts County and Walsall, and they now take on a MK Dons outfit who are desperate to make up lost ground on the play-off pack.
It’s now nine matches without a league win for Oldham who recently performed heroics against Premier league side Liverpool, but this will soon be forgotten if they get relegated to League Two and the signs are not good as they’ve lost eight of their last nine with just a point at Scunthorpe United in a 2-2 draw on New Years Day their meagre return from a possible 27 points.
Oldham’s home record stands at 3-3-8 13/18 and they’ve won just once in their last seven at Boundary Park which was a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town way back towards the end of November.
MK DONS
Visitors MK Dons have also returned some patchy results of late with just one win from their last six league matches (a 2-1 win at Notts County), but in The Dons defence, they have had some tricky matches facing teams like Walsall, Coventry City, Notts County, Yeovil Town and Bournemouth.
However, MK Dons have a great chance to return to winning ways against an Oldham outfit whose confidence and morale must be reaching rock-bottom and now have the pressure of relegation upon their shoulders.
Away from home, MK Dons have done okay with a 1-0 win at League One leaders Tranmere Rovers and the Notts County result along with a point at Shrewsbury Town who are hard to break down in their back-yard, and three points today would, like Stevenage, lift them to within touching distance of the play-offs in what has been a slightly disappointing season for The Dons to date.
THE BETTING VERDICT:
Oldham’s confidence is fragile right now, and despite MK Don’s indifferent results of late, I’ll take the handicap with the quarter ball against us as I believe they can turn it around at Oldham today.
If the Dons don’t win we lose only half our stake. MK Dons to win 2-1 though.
