English League Two

2013-02-02 - Wimbledon vs Burton Albion

A Sports Betting Pick by Auls

Wimbledon v Burton Albion
Football: English League Two
Saturday 2 February 2013 - Kick Off 3pm

Wimbledon

Things are getting tight at the bottom of League Two and it does make me wonder if Wimbledon will regret the dropped points against the League leaders Port Vale. Before the game, they would certainly have accepted taking a point, but leading 2-0 there has to have been thoughts in Neil Ardley's mind that they are capable of picking up the full three points.

Despite the surprise point, Wimbledon remain bottom of the League Two table, although they are only 1 point behind Plymouth in the position of safety and also have a couple of games in hand to play. Wimbledon will certainly want to improve their home record where they are 2-4-8 so far this season, scoring 14 goals and conceding 24.

Wimbledon should have picked up some confidence from the fact that they are unbeaten in their last 4 games, picking up 8 points from a possible 12 in that time. However, they have drawn their last 2 home games, both with the same 2-2 scoreline, and have now failed to win any of their last 7 here. Wimbledon fans will at least point to the fact that the back to back draws have stopped a run of 3 consecutive home defeats.

Burton Albion

The bottom of the League Two table is certainly very tight, but the top is proving to be no different, particularly when it comes to the third automatic promotion spot that nobody seems to one to take control of. At the moment, Burton Albion have a chance to making a claim for that spot as they get ready to visit South West London.

Burton earned a draw at Oxford United during the week to move into 3rd in the League Two table, although they have played more games than many of their rivals and only hold a 1 point lead over the Play Off teams. They bring in a 3-4-8 away record, scoring just 10 goals while conceding 25 in those games.

The draw at Oxford means Burton have lost just 1 of their last 4 League games, picking up 7 points from a possible 12 heading into this game. However, the draw also extended their run to 7 games without a win away from home in League Two, although it did mean Burton's 3 consecutive away losses in the League was halted. In fact, Burton have lost 5 of their last 7 away games in League Two.

Head to Head

Burton Albion thumped Wimbledon 6-2 at home earlier this season.

However, Wimbledon won't be intimidated by their high flying opponents after beating them 4-0 at home last season.

Prediction

Burton Albion haven't exactly been full of goals in their away games, but Wimbledon are a side that will give them chances to get on the scoreboard in this one.

However, don't think that means Burton are going to win here simply because they are likely going to score- Wimbledon are also capable of causing problems going forward, as they did for Port Vale, and I think they could easily pull the upset in this one.

I can't really separate them in terms of a winner, but the 1.85 being offered on at least 3 goals being scored looks a little too high for me and that is where my money will be going.

The Pick :

Wimbledon 2-1 Burton Albion
