2013-02-02 - Peterborough United vs Burnley
A Sports Betting Pick by Lamps
Football : England : Championship
Saturday 2nd February - Kickoff 3:00pm
Peterborough United
Peterborough United held Hull City at home 1-1 some 2 weeks ago now as the had no cup involvement last weekend. The point keeps Peterborough at the foot of the table and they trail safety by 6 points but they do have a game in hand.
Ferguson's side have 1 win in 4 league games but they did win 3 straight prior to this sticky patch in their form. Unfortunately for United the sides around them have been picking up form with Bristol and Barnsley both winning midweek so the pressure is very much on Posh to kick start their season.
The home form is decent as Posh have taken 7 points from a possible 9. This run put an end to a poor run of 4 straight defeats and the home form will be crucial to their survival hopes this season.
8 of the last 9 home games have ended with both teams scoring and it's a run of 7 straight now with that occurring. The defence has improved keeping the visiting team to just 1 goal in the last 2 games. Prior to that the last 5 visiting teams scored at least 2 goals here averaging just under 3.50 goals a time!
Burnley
Burnley lost at home to Birmingham (1-2) at the weekend with leaves them in 8th place. The Lancashire side trail the top 6 by 5 points now and won't want them to get away if they drop points here on Saturday.
Dyche's side were on a 3 game winning run and 4 wins from 5 before the Birmingham victory. Burnley have only lost 2 of their last 8 league games so the form is still good. Playing bottom of the league is well timed as they need to get back on the winning trail and that starts Saturday.
The away form is good with 1 loss in 6 so it's clear playing away suites them. With the hosts needing points too and going for it you would think Burnley will get chances on the break to punish them.
In the last 3 away games Burnley have scored 2 goals in each. Burnley have also scored in 7 of their last 8 away league games and now face a defence that has kept 1 clean sheet at home in 17 games.
Betting Verdict
Burnley are favourites for this game at a very attractive odds against price. The hosts are playing well at home again and arrive here with plenty of rest which could give them an advantage.
However, the visitors play well on the road as mentioned above and I'm going to back them to beat Posh on Saturday. Most Posh games end with a result as the 1-1 v Hull is their first home draw in 14 games.
Burnley have beaten Peterborough 5-2 earlier in the season and with the likes of Austin in the team I find it hard to to envisage the hosts keeping out the visitors for 90minutes.
Peterborough are good for a goal and overs looks the safest play but at the odds on offer. I will stick with Burnley to find the winner and eventually take the 3 points as they close in on the top 6.
Good Luck
The Pick :
Peterborough 1-2 Burnley
