Atalanta (13th W7 D4 L10)
Atalanta saved a point last weekend against Cagliari after they found themselves a goal down within two minutes thanks to a moment of madness from Canini.
Defender Stendardo’s header allowed Atalanta to get back in the game early in the second half, but after Luigi Giorgi was sent off in the 79th minute they were unable to go for the winner and eventually settled for a draw.
Atalanta dropped to the 13th position in the Serie A after a poor run, they’ve actually only picked up two points from their last six games in the competition, so I can’t imagine them being too confident ahead of this clash.
Luigi Giorgi is obviously suspended, while midfielder Schelotto and defender Lucchini are recovering from injuries, so we won’t see any these three against Milan.
AC Milan (6th W10 D4 L7)
The Rossoneri are sixth place in the Serie A and are working hard on the transfer market to strengthen the squad in order to be able to achieve the team’s objective for this season, which is a top 3 finish.
Milan have just signed 31-year-old defender Zaccardo from Parma, but talked down rumors about Balotelli or Kaka. However, we might see striker Didier Drogba in the Rossoneri shirt, executive Galliani said he doesn’t rule out other transfers.
Meanwhile, Milan has just picked up three more points in their home games against Bologna, thanks to a second half doppietta from Pazzini.
Pazzini and El Shaarawy have actually scored 63% of Milan’s total goals in Serie A, so the Rossoneri will expect them to do the job once again against Atalanta.
The Betting Verdict
Atalanta will be looking to put an end to their alarming slump, as I mentioned before they’ve failed to win any of their last six games, but Milan may not be the right opponent, I think the hosts would be happy with a point here.
Can’t say the same against Milan though, the Serie A podium is 9 points away so they have a lot of catching up to do and dropping points against struggling sides like Atalanta won’t help them.
I expect Atalanta to sit back and try to strike on counter attacks, they are good at absorbing pressure, but I think the individual quality of Milan’s forwards will make the difference here, so I’ll go with Milan to edge this.
