I'm still kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on Sociedad to beat Barcelona @ 12.00 despite writing a preview pretty much detailing why I thought that was what was likely to happen.
Hopefully at least one of you reading had the balls to do so. Anyway, last weeks giant killers are now on the road at Celta Vigo, but is this perhaps a massive letdown spot?
Quite possibly. Sociedad didn't just win last week. They were 2-0 down to the most rampant offence in La Liga, against an unbeaten Barcelona side on a record start to the season. And then they came back.
Sociedad scored 3 in reply and handed Barcelona their first loss in the league this season, and the emotional high from that will likely leave them flat here. On the road no less, where Celta Vigo will want a similar win, especially considering the recent h2h.
Celta Vigo have lost the last 3 meetings with Sociedad. They lost 1-0 here and 2-0 away when the 2 teams were in the 2nd division back in 2010 and in the La Liga meeting earlier this season they were beaten 2-1 away.
Enough motivation to want the win to win some respect, but it's not going to be easy because Celta Vigo have a tendency to concede. Their last 7 league games have seen them allow their opponent to score, albeit just once.
Celta Vigo have got a tough task in hand to beat Sociedad, who were on a 4 game unbeaten run away from home before they lost 4-3 to Real Madrid, in a game I give them full marks for for the way their scored so many. Sociedad almost got something out of that too, and it's a mark of the fight of this team that they have picked up 11 points in La Liga in games they have conceded first.
THE BETTING VERDICT
Keep an eye out for Agirretxe, who scored the winner against Barcelona. He was on target twice in the reverse fixture when Sociedad beat Celta, and could well be involved in goals in this one too.
Too much fight in Sociedad to bet against them, although with the letdown spot I cannot back them. Perhaps it's best to just bet on both teams to score.
