What bad luck for Brentford to be playing Chelsea in the FA Cup just days after the Blues were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Swansea. Over a 2 legged SF, Chelsea failed to even score, losing 2-0 at the Bridge before a stalemate in Wales that got attention for all the wrong reasons. All the frustrations will be taken out on their lower league hosts.

Brentford aren't exactly bad, sitting 3rd in League One, 6 points behind the joint leaders, but 3rd in League One is a long way behind 3rd in the Premier League, which is where Chelsea sit. Chelsea are the current FA Cup champions, as well as winners of last years Champions League, so beating them in this match looks to be too much of an ask.

Indeed, away from home Chelsea have been able to do serious damage to opponents a lot better than Brentford. Southampton were thrashed 5-1, as were Leeds United, and both those teams actually scored first. Chelsea also registered impressive 4-0 and 2-1 wins over Stoke and Arsenal in recent games, so there is enough quality here to blow through Brentford, who they are facing here for the first time in 63 years!

I'd keep an eye on Juan Mata and Frank Lampard for this one, because when the goals come, they are the ones that will have a hand. Mata has now scored 4 goals and assisted in 5 in just 8 FA Cup appearances for Chelsea. Lampard, who is playing his last season at Chelsea, has been involved in 10 goals in his last 9 FA Cup appearances; scoring 6 and setting up 4.

THE BETTING VERDICT

I think the backlash from the Capital One exit will be too much for Brentford, and I expect to see Chelsea win by more than a one goal margin.
