Brighton pulled a massive upset in the previous round when they knocked out Newcastle United 2-0. That result earned them the right to host Arsenal, who needed a replay to get past Swansea, winning 1-0 at the Emirates following a 2-2 draw in Wales.
Brighton's chances of springing a surprise have been dealt a blow, because Arsenal have already been shocked in Cup competition, losing on penalties at Bradford in the CO Cup (Indeed a cock up). They will also have watched Brighton do a number on Newcastle, so no chance of them losing concentration here.
Wenger will also bring a very strong side up here. He knows this is a fantastic chance to get his team their first trophy in 8 years. They blew their chance in the League Cup, so will want to do well here, certainly not lose to lower league competition, something they have not done in 33 previous FA Cup games.
I see from stats Arsenal have not managed to keep a clean sheet in their last 7 FA Cup games away from home, conceding 12 goals. That is a worry, and to be honest I see them conceding here. The difference will be the Arsenal offence, which is capable, on their day, of blowing away any team.
Indeed, Arsenal roared back at Reading and scored 7 to win comfortably despite conceding 5. They hammered West Ham 5-1 on the weekend, and of course have already banged 6 past Southampton and 7 past Newcastle. On their day, if things click, they are untouchable. Thing is, will they do it here in a game Brighton will be more than ready for?
THE BETTING VERDICT
I think Brighton would love a money spinning replay if possible, because I genuinely do not see them winning (yes, even when I take off my Gooner glasses).
I think Wenger is desperate for a trophy and with the team trailing the top 4 in the league he does not need another replay. This has to be a win and it has to come in this game. Expect a strong performance, especially in the 2nd half, where Arsenal have been doing well recently, even in losses.
